Who Are You Weirdos Anyway?
Mollietees Creations is Mollie & Tony Cortes. Married for seven years and friends for more than a dozen, these two geeks make up two sides of the same coin. Mollie is the Maker and Tony gets the title of “both muscle and muse”
Mollie (any/all) is the seamstress of the pair. It was her who came up with the idea of upcycling clothing in her sewing. She started by tailoring the oversized t-shirts she found in thrift stores and at anime conventions to fit better and soon realized that that was just the beginning to what she could do with a t-shirt. Mollie is bigender and does cosplay in her spare time.
Tony (he/him) is is think tank. What he lacks in sewing knowledge he makes up for in know-how and muscle. If you need something built or a problem fixed, Tony’s your guy! Logistics are his specialty. He also carves candles (Check out his work at Kandlestix!) and is a huge sci-fi fan. Ask him to talk about Dune if you have an afternoon to spare.
Why T-shirts?
In a world where more than 11 MILLION TONS of textile waste is incinerated or dumped in landfills every year, sustainability & recycling is at the heart of what Mollietees Creations is about. While no one individual can fix what is happening to the planet, in addition to making our voices heard by those in power in government and companies who prioritize profit over sustainability, there is plenty you can do to make sure your clothing has a long life!
Whether it be through gifting your clothing to friends or repurposing the fabric in your day to day life, every little bit helps! Donate clothes to local thrift stores or charities (MTC even takes shirt donations too!) to help those in your community or consider sending what you can’t donate to be recycled. The American Textile Recycling Service is a great resource for this! Finally be mindful of where and how you shop by doing your best not to engage in fast fashion and support independent stores and makers! Together we can change the world, one t-shirt at a time!
